Different strokes: A lesson on letting go August 27, 2010

I decided to just play in my altered book and this is what I ended up with. I really like the outcome, I’m sure there is more I could do to make it look a little more finished, but for now I’ll leave it as is.

This spread really taught me the freedom of letting go of my expectations for the final product. I didn’t let myself get attached and wasn’t worried about letting go a little. I still have a long way to go as far as learning how to “REALLY” let go, but baby steps right?

Really Awesome Video on Transparency Transfers July 29, 2010

I just discovered this video today and can’t wait to try this technique. I found a whole package of inkjet transparencies at the local Goodwill (thrift store) yesterday. I’ve been wanting to get some, but they were too expensive at the office supply store. I only paid 99 cents for an unopened package of 50! What a treat! I will post whatever it is I come up with when I’m finished experimenting. I’m totally inspired!

Altered Book Page June 20, 2010

Wanderer

I was so pleased with how this altered book page turned out!  I was having no luck with gel medium transfers, so I experimented with packing tape and came up with this altered book page created in a hardbound world atlas I found in the local thrift store.  If you would like to try packing tape transfers try this quick tutorial

i hope this doesn’t show up twice! I thought I blogged this all ready, anyway….This is my first attempt to paint flowers…I used colored pencil, watercolors and caran de ache water soluble crayons. I did this painting in a workshop by talented artist Sol Santiago who I met at the amazing Ning group Hands and Heart, created by Monica Zuniga.

I painted this in an altered book I’m working on. I wanted to work on using acrylics and blending them when painting faces and figures so that i get the shadowing right. I found that the wetter you keep your paint the easier it is to blend. I have so much to learn and am enjoying every second of experimenting with different techniques and mediums. What
s your favorite medium for color and blending ability?

This was inspired by Artist Traci Bautista. I love her style and use of color and freedom! I can’t wait to take a workshop from her when i can afford it someday!

I am also taking Monica’s Pencil Portrait class. It’s a great class on the specifics of drawing portraits in pencil. Great detailed, step by step videos that explain how to draw eyes, mouth, nose, face i front, 3/4 and profile. Excellent explanation on how to shade….I can’t say enough about this class, and you get to download the videos to keep too. I know I will be going back to them time and time again!

Still practicing my art…I just finished my Suzi Blu workshop and am now taking the Inspire me Workshop from Monica Zuniga at Hands and Heart. This class is so worth the money, I’m learning so much! This is one of my altered books I’m working on. It’s the second page. If I could dream, knowing I could not fail I would dream I was a successful artist with my artwork in galleries and selling on Etsy, maybe even teaching a class or two. I would be the best mom in the world and be all that my family needs me to be. My house would be clean and meals healthy and delicious and on time every day. I would never lose my patience, I would always have a sincere smile and positive word for everyone…..I could go on and on….I would go to church with my family every Sunday…

Today was my Birthday! March 6, 2010

Digital ARt Background #1

I had a great birthday today.  I got a Wacom Bamboo Graphics tablet so I can start trying my hand at some digital art (Can’t Wait!!!).  I also got some fun new art supplies, a new moleskine journal and dinner out with my lovely family!  Funtimes!

I was just reading my first ever post on this blog and when I started I was hoping to post at least once a week!  I’ve failed miserably! I will be the first to admit that consistency is not my strong point!  I always have so much going on in my head I hardly know which way is up sometimes! I have also been completely immersed in my art journaling and Suzi Blu online workshop.  I just signed up for two more workshops too, so I’m hoping to post some more stuff as I go along.  I usually post everything on Flickr instead.  Oh well…

Only time will tell if I can actually make this a habit.  I’m a terrible writer! But tonight I feel like I’ve ended my Birthday evening on a good note!  Nighty Night, or I guess it’s now a good morning here!
